The initial solution to address seismic compliance at St. Jude Medical Center was a $1 Billion Southeast Tower. Through a cost risk analysis during the pre-design phase, Petra determined the project to be too costly. The project team swiftly responded with a creative solution to deliver a more operationally efficient project which reduced the project cost by 50%. This solution involved a design/build collaboration which closely resembled the structure of an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) process. Project costs were further reduced through active design scope management, advanced BIM 3D modeling, and genuine team collaboration throughout the design and construction phases. The total project cost at completion is now projected to be 34% of the original project cost.
